For winter walks, cleared paths lead through the snowy meadows of Nesselwängle and along the Haldensee. Across the whole valley there are around 81 kilometres of cleared winter paths. And you can borrow a sledge from us at the house for the toboggan runs.
You stay with us in Nesselwängle, with Nina and Matthias, Mathilda and Oskar, our Labradoodle, in one of seven suites, each with its own kitchen.

We will tell you which path suits the day
Just ask us in the morning. We will check which paths are cleared and suggest a walk that suits your day, with children, with a dog or for a long afternoon. With a dog, keep to the winter walking paths; dogs are not allowed on the cross-country trails.
Winter paths from Nesselwängle
Heading east, the walk starts down in the village, at the lift car park by the Gasthof Schuster, a few minutes from us by car. From there a level path runs beside the main road to the hamlet of Rauth, just under seven kilometres there and back, about an hour and a half. Heading west, you start at the Sportcenter car park, go through the underpass and follow a cleared path above the main road past the Dreikreuzkapelle to Haller.
If you would like to stay out longer, walk along the shore of the Haldensee to Haller and up the forest track to the Adlerhorst, with a view across the lake. You come back over snowy meadows and past the Dreikreuzkapelle, about seven kilometres and two and a half hours in all.
Uphill, a groomed track leads to the Krinnenalpe at 1,530 metres and back the same way, around eight kilometres and just over 400 metres of ascent. The chairlift has closed for good, so the way up is on foot. Tobogganers may be using the same track, so keep an eye out for them on the way up. We are happy to tell you whether the hut is open on your day. Plan the walk so that you do not depend on it being open.

Level walks through the valley
At the Haldensee, the lakeside promenade leads to Haller, just under two kilometres and almost level. When the lake is frozen, the tourist board allows you to walk across it, but only where it is signposted. With a pushchair, the high path from Zöblen to Tannheim and the small meadow loop in Grän are both easy going.
The Vilsalpsee is about an hour’s walk from Tannheim along the cleared road. In winter you cannot walk round it because of the avalanche risk, and you may not step onto the ice there.

Up on the mountain
For the wide view, take the lift up the Neunerköpfle in Tannheim. At the top, a winter path runs round the summit at almost 1,900 metres, mostly level, with a summit book and cross. It is groomed whenever snow and weather allow. At the Füssener Jöchle in Grän, it is about 40 minutes from the top station to the Gamskopf at 1,890 metres, an easy walk, children included.

Tobogganing with a sledge from the house
You can borrow a sledge from us at the house; just let us know. For a first go, there is a short toboggan run in the village, and another short one in Haldensee that still runs well in spring.
From the Krinnenalpe a toboggan run comes down almost four kilometres to the Gasthof Schuster. You pull the sledge up on foot, as no lift runs any more. We will find out for you whether it is groomed this winter and open on your day. Only take the long run if you can steer and brake your sledge safely.
On snowshoes
A snowshoe loop runs from the Krinnenalpe to the Nesselwängler Edenalpe and back, a little over five and a half kilometres, with its highest point at 1,684 metres, rated moderate by the tourist board. From us, you first climb up to the Krinnenalpe. Stay on the marked routes and keep an eye on the snow and the avalanche risk.
If you would rather go with someone who knows the way, local guides lead snowshoe walks every week; any tourist information office can tell you more. Snowshoes can be hired in the valley, and we will tell you where.
Good to know
With the guest card, the buses through the valley are free in winter too; only the bus to the Vilsalpsee is not included. A map of the cross-country trails and winter paths is available at the tourist information offices. For the walk: sturdy boots, poles help, plus sun protection and something to drink. And we will pack you a Jause, a mountain snack; just let us know beforehand.
After a day outside
Back at the house, the whirlpool, steam bath and infrared cabin are open daily from 4 to 7 pm. In the evening we will set out a fondue or raclette for you on request.
