We live in the house with a child and a dog ourselves: our daughter Mathilda is growing up here, and Labradoodle Oskar is part of the family. If you are coming to the Tannheimer Tal for a family holiday, there is nothing you need to explain to us — we know what a day on short legs looks like.
Room for the whole family
Two suites are made for it: the Jägersuite Wilhelm Tell with two bedrooms and its own living room, and the Erkersuite Andreas Hofer with two bedrooms and its own Bauernstube — both for four, up to six with the sofa bed. Every other suite sleeps up to four with the sofa bed; each additional person we charge at €40 per night.
And because every suite has its own fully fitted kitchen, your children eat when they are hungry — not when a kitchen opens. A cot and a high chair are kept in the house — just say the word when you book.
The day outdoors
The lakeside path from the Vilsalpsee to the Bergacht waterfall is barely six and a half kilometres and easy with children. In Tannheim a barefoot loop runs three flat kilometres through the meadows, shoes in hand; the Schmugglersteig themed trail comes over from Schattwald, and up on the Neunerköpfle the 9erlebnisweg is waiting. The Kletterwald Tannheimer Tal high-ropes forest sits right next to the lift in Nesselwängle, a few minutes from the house. Water, one way or another
On warm days the natural swimming pond in the garden belongs to everyone in the house, with the lawn all around. And the guest card you receive on arrival includes a day at the Wasserwelt Haldensee — along with free buses through the whole valley and one ride a day up the summer cable car.
Winter with children
When the snow comes, the valley holds toboggan runs and four ski areas with 33 kilometres of slopes, plus 140 kilometres of cross-country trails — Mathilda has long been at home on them. Skis and toboggans dry overnight in the ski cellar, boots in the boot warmer.
Breakfast for small guests
At breakfast from the Bauernstube, children aged 7 to 12 pay €12.50; up to age 6 they eat free with their parents. And for those who prefer breakfast in pyjamas: fresh rolls stand at the suite door by 8 am.
To be honest
The Sunneschlössli is a house that has grown over time, with stairs and no lift — an adventure for young legs, something to consider with a pram. Tell us how old your children are when you enquire, and we will honestly recommend the suite that suits you.
